Review: Mario Diaz de Leon plays selections from “The Soul is the Arena”
The New York Times

Standard Deviance One, a collaboration between Nate Young (Wolf Eyes) and Mario Diaz de Leon, based on material from the albums “Blinding Confusion” and “Stay Asleep” by Young’s Regression project. Over five movements, the work explores Young’s masterful sense of atmosphere and lucid dread, arranged and expanded for an ensemble of eight musicians.

*Performed by Chris McIntyre (trombone), James Rogers (bass trombone), James Rushford (viola), Maya Dunietz (piano), Yarn/Wire (percussion), Nate Young (electronics/voice), Mario Diaz de Leon (guitar). *Newly commissioned for Tectonics Festival NY, by Nate Young, realized for ensemble by Mario Diaz de Leon.

“A darkly propulsive new work….an alluringly industrial and distorted sound world.”

For those that will be around / alive the day after MAPS FEST – at the same venue! BLOODMIST has returned following a two-year hiatus.
With the world premiere of my first work for organ and electronics, four shows of the new Oneirogen material, and a few revelatory concerts of improvised music, this fall was marked by a sense of new horizons and excitement.  For my final performance of 2014, I am thrilled to be part of the METROPOLITAN AUDIO PAIN SOURCE festival, which focuses on harsh noise / power electronics / death industrial music.  Variety, brevity, and maximum impact is assured throughout the evening.

Year of No Light is a masterful 6-piece French doom metal band, founded in 2004, with whom I had the pleasure of sharing the bill at Denovali Swingfest Essen in 2012.  These events, which feature support from some of the best acts in our local extreme music scene, will be their first time performing in the USA.  Not to be missed.
